Fine Art Print Sizes Guide

Choosing the right print size is as important as choosing the right image. A print that is too small for its wall reads as an afterthought; one that is too large overwhelms the space. The right size creates visual balance, draws the eye naturally, and gives the image the physical presence it deserves.

The Two-Thirds Rule

Interior designers commonly follow a two-thirds rule for wall art: the artwork should span approximately two-thirds of the available wall width. Applied practically:

  • 6-foot wall → art spanning ~48 inches (a 24×36 print in landscape orientation)
  • 8-foot wall → art spanning ~64 inches (a 30×40 or larger print)
  • 10-foot wall → art spanning ~80 inches (a 40×60 print or a gallery arrangement)

Print Sizes Available from Edin Chavez

The full size range available at edinfineart.com/prints/:

  • 8×10 ($95) — Small prints suited for gallery walls, desktops, bookshelves, or intimate display spaces. Excellent as gifts and entry-level collectibles.
  • 11×14 — The classic portrait/small landscape size. Works well for bedrooms, home offices, and gallery arrangements.
  • 16×20 — The threshold between small and medium format. Begins to function as a standalone statement piece in smaller rooms.
  • 20×30 — A versatile medium-large format. Works well in most living rooms and dining spaces as a single statement piece.
  • 24×36 — True large format. Commands attention as a primary wall piece in most living rooms and common areas.
  • 30×40 — Gallery scale. Appropriate for spacious living areas, dining rooms, and corporate spaces.
  • 40×60 ($995) — Maximum scale. A statement piece that fills and defines a large wall. Used in lobbies, galleries, and grand living spaces.

Room-by-Room Size Recommendations

  • Bedroom over headboard — 24×36 or 30×40 (depending on bed and wall width)
  • Living room primary wall — 30×40 or 40×60
  • Dining room — 20×30 or 24×36
  • Home office — 16×20 or 20×30
  • Hallway — 8×10 or 11×14 in a series
  • Entryway — 11×14 to 20×30 depending on ceiling height

A Note on Orientation

Most landscape and seascape photography is horizontal (landscape orientation). Aerial and urban photography may be vertical (portrait) or square. Check the image’s aspect ratio before ordering to ensure the size you select matches the image’s natural orientation.
